Working as a Makeup Artist

I am so excited to share this information with you all! Never in a million years did I think I’d get the chance to work as a makeup artist, but here we are!

I’ve always preferred doing makeup on others. I don’t wear makeup regularly, like most people who know me can attest to. However, when I do put some on, I always feel like I do it the same way. I blend my eyeshadow the same, I wear the same lipstick color- all the same. Even when I cosplay, I still end up doing my face the same way, that is, unless I’m painting myself bright red (shameless Minthe makeup tutorial plug). I feel like we as individuals don’t always see our best features or are so used to doing our makeup a certain way that we fall into a routine and don’t experiment with new looks.

I started working with makeup when I was 14. Back then, all I had was some Vaseline and an old face painting kit. Didn’t own any red lipstick, so I mixed some food coloring and lip gloss together. In hindsight, not my best moment. 5 years down the road and I’ve got every shade in the rainbow (plus a couple more).

Getting to work with such beautiful models is a plus as well! I had the chance to make up the ever so lovely ladies Chelsea and Rachael for their boudoir shoots.

A boudoir shoot isn’t just about the pictures you get at the end. It’s the experience. It takes guts to put yourself out there, and makeup is there to enhance your beauty, not cover up imperfections.

Chelsea asked for something I call “dark glam.” I gave her a sultry smoky eye with lots of black and sparkles, and finished with a wing and false eyelashes. She had an almost purple lip, which really popped with her skin tone and helped tie her look together.

Racheal preferred more nude/brown colors, paired with some red and gold glitter and a classic red lip. The glitter pallet I was using had an ungodly amount of fallout, so I’m seriously considering pitching it. But, she was a trooper and we ended up with a “neutral glam” look.

All in all, this was so much fun and I cannot wait to do it again. If anyone is interested, I can certainly detail specific tutorials for how to achieve each look.

If you would like me to do your makeup for a con or photoshoot, shoot me a message! I’m always available for a consult.

I’m also currently looking for models to practice on. If this is something you’d be interested in, please send me a message! Preferably over 18 with flexible hours and your own method of transportation.

As a special thank you for reading this far, stay tuned for my next blog post! I’m working with Pinup Cosplay Studios and something saucy is on its way…
